Difficulty: Easy
This is a very easy skill that I promise you, if you make this a comfortable and natural reaction in your everyday life, the results and the energy around you will be dramatically different.
For those who are especially shy and afraid to confront or talk to others, this is the simplest skill that will make a huge difference. I used to never smile or seem like a person without much emotion. I would ride the subway train to school and back everyday and all you see from everyone is an emotionless face.
Wouldn’t it be more interesting if you saw somebody with at least a subtle smile on their face, even if they were just comfortable sitting in their seat waiting for their stop, or someone reading a magazine or listening to their iPod?
People like this stand out more and it makes you think that they are happy with their lives and things must be going well for them. Something as simple as a subtle smile on your face at all times makes your personality significantly more attractive, not to mention that you subconsciously feel happier while putting on that smile.
Exercise: Whenever you are out and you happen to make eye contact with somebody you don’t know or any stranger, simply just smile and after about a half second casually look away and go about your business. Do this when you walk down the street, when you are grocery shopping, when you are at the bar or night club, at a house party, everywhere! Don’t forget to have that very subtle smile on your face to begin with. It should be very small, almost undetectable yet you are consciously thinking that you are smiling in your mind.
This should be the natural state you should be in at all times and with time and practice, you will make this a natural part of you. Believe me this will make a very big and long lasting difference in your life. I bet you aren’t smiling right now as you read this. So for starters, look at the big smile on the girl in this photo (or whatever else makes you smile in that photo :p) and keep that in mind when you read the next article. Try to hold a subtle smile throughout the read of the article and see how that feels!
